In this project, students adopted an element of their choice from the periodic table. They researched and became experts on their element and were challenged to create a 12x12 composition that illustrated four characteristics of their element. The catch was that they were only allowed to use abstract elements of art (line, texture, shape, color, value, and space. This year, students were also asked to find or create a sound that captured something about their element. Finally, the students each crafted an artist's statement to provide their audience with some insight into the artistic choices they made in each of their compositions.
